Alcohol and drug-related automobile accidents have become a major problem in Medina County, Ohio. Under the auspices of developing a strategy to reduce injuries and fatalities, the City of Brunswick brought together officials from across the county. These officials agreed on a saturation strategy that would patrol identified problem areas throughout the county without increasing operating costs.  Utilizing the Ohio State Police Hotspot map and patrols of nine or ten officers, the Medina County OVI task force keeps drivers on their toes about where they’ll be pulled over, since the police use patrols instead of check points. In less than one year traffic crash fatalities involving drugs or alcohol have been reduced by more than 29 percent. Fewer drunk drivers mean fewer crashes and fewer deaths.
