Over the past ten years, significant improvements in mass evacuation strategies have been made. Chief among these is increased collaborative planning among local, state, and federal government and nongovernmental organizations. However, gaps still remain. Of primary concern is assisted evacuation planning, which several studies show is still a complex challenge for many municipalities.
