When challenged to implement a $2.25 million Community Challenge planning grant, the Los Angeles Economic Workforce Development Department (EWDD) launched an innovative, interdisciplinary partnership called the Northeast Los Angeles Riverfront Collaborative (NELA RC). Targeted to implement a comprehensive economic development strategy in the region, the EWDD identified three key objectives for the project, including comprehensive community engagement in the Riverfront District.

Through the process of implementation, the NELA RC engaged with the local community to develop the vision plan for the implementation of the program. By collaboratively working across silos, the EWLA RC project examined various methods for successful community engagement. Their findings and lessons learned speak to the future of innovative collaboration, engagement, and overall the development of cities moving forward. These findings, and many more, are captured in this document download, NELA RC Project Lessons Learned and Community Engagement Toolkit.
