The inspector general's office of the Department of Health and Human Services released two reports regarding the state of preparedness of state and local governments in responding to pandemic influenza outbreaks in their communities. The reports pointed out many deficiencies in local government preparedness, but also cited a number recommendations to improve preparedness and emergency response capabilities.
