On September 17, 2006, the inhabitants of the City of Titusville, Florida were shocked and saddened to hear of the untimely death of sixteen-year-old Morgan Gordon and seventeen-year-old Chelsea Beck in an early-morning car wreck. It later came to light that both girls had been intoxicated and were headed home from a party when the driver lost control of the car. This was not the first time a Titusville adolescent’s life had been cut short on account of drunken driving. While many Titusville teenagers were devastated by the loss of their classmates and grasped the importance of these tragic events, other teens did not change their cavalier attitudes towards drinking and driving. In order to demonstrate to these hardheaded holdouts the dire consequence of drunken driving, the Student Advisory Council decided to make a film using donated equipment from a local church and the City of Titusville Police and Fire Departments. The film premiered during homecoming week at Titusville High School and had a positive effect on student outlook on drunken driving. The Last Dance video was dedicated to Morgan Gordon, Chelsea Beck, and Matthew Severs and will hopefully prevent any more alcohol-related deaths among adolescents in the City of Titusville.
