Starting in 2005 the City of Fredericton, Canada identified Intimate Partner Violence as serious problem in their community and set out to deal with the many factors that contribute to it. In collaboration with the Muriel McQueen Fergusson Foundation (MMFF), a local charity which deals with family violence, they worked to improve the quality of enforcement interventions with special attention to dealing with victims and offenders based on ethnicity, disability, and same sex relationships. Together they developed a successful training program which improved the overall performance of police officers responding to incidences of domestic violence.
