In the past, hoarding has been sensationalized, misunderstood, belittled, and degraded. As more research becomes available and professional understanding grows, it is apparent that a concerted community effort to provide continuity of care for individuals who hoard is the compassionate and necessary response. We must go beyond the sensationalism and begin to mitigate the suffering associated with hoarding disorder in our community. The attached Hoarding White Paper serves as a primer on hoarding and can also stand alone as a resource for specific information. The paper's intent is to inform, educate and ignite conversation about hoarding in communities.
