In light of limited funding and resources, cities seek to logically prioritize their improvement projects. The City of Fort Collins developed a Sidewalk Prioritization Model to logically prioritize the specific Pedestrian facilities in need of rehabilitation. This report from the city’s Planning, Development & Transportation department describes the inventory process, scoring system, and implementation considerations of the model. In addition, the report found the Sidewalk Prioritization Model fostered better coordination, a more appropriate funding strategy, and allowed Fort Collins to address the most needed projects first. The City’s model was loosely based on a similar system implemented by the City of Seattle, Washington.
