International interest in the field of EMS and infectious disease was accelerated by the U.S. Anthrax cases in October 2001, concerns about Smallpox and bio-terrorism, the 2003 Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in Toronto, and the H1N1 (Swine Flu) scare of 2009. With these past oubreaks in mind, the Memphis Fire Department published this Pandemic Response Plan.
