City of Surrey created the Crime Reduction Strategy in response to the complicated connections between broad social issues and crime.  The goal of the strategy was to reduce crime, involve the community in crime reduction, and educate the public on the perceptions and realities of crime.

The first phase of the program was to create an intelligence and analysis unit which put out weekly reports on crime trends and hot spots.  Agencies within the police department became integrated partners to more effectively share and utilize information.  After three years, the program has led to a 10% reduction in crime in Surrey.

This case study was nominated for ICMA's Annual Awards Program.
