The Citizens Research Council of Michigan is a privately funded non-profit organization that provides policy research for local Michigan governments. At the request of city leaders, the CRC produced this 1976 report on the feasibility of police and fire department consolidation in the City of Grosse Pointe, Michigan. Their conclusions-that consolidation of fire and police services was not only feasible but in some cases could actually be advantageous-have particular relevance in today's economic climate as cities and towns across the country look to address budget concerns through consolidation, in particular fire, police and EMS services.
