A partnership between the City of Avondale and Care1st Health Plan Arizona has resulted in the creation of the Care1st Avondale Resource and Housing Center. An old library building was converted into a Resource Center and has increased access to critical social services needed in Southwest Valley community. The Resource Center is managed by the city and provides office space and amenities to human services non –profit organizations at no charge. Care1st bears operational costs and undertakes building maintenance in exchange for increased name recognition in the community. The success of the partnership and program has made it a best practice case study that other communities can emulate. It was also recognized by the Alliance for Innovation, 2011 Innovation Awards.
