This is the 2010 nomination of Arlington, Texas' Landfill Methane Recovery Program for the Community Sustainability Award. City Managers Jim Holgersson and Dale Fissler are credited with creating a system to reduce methane emissions from their local landfill and establishing a methane transport system between the landfill and the sewage treatment plant. Since the program's inception, it has removed over 1,817,101,136 cubic feet of methane from the Arlington landfill.
