No, this is not the title of one conference session. Our media partner Route Fifty has been reporting from the conference and has covered these two topics among others in their daily news feed.
Reporting on Monday's session "Are Your City's Finances Sustainable?" the article covers the ten questions local government managers need to ask in order to determine whether their finances are fiscally sustainable. These range from "How much do we rely on elastic revenues?" to "What will be our cumulative structural budget surplus or gap in three years?"
Clay Pearson, city manager of Pearland, TX, led the session Daring to Engage Electronically which gave participants great ideas on best practices for using social media. The main takeaway from the session was that a decetralized approach may be the best way to be successful and the Route Fifty article sums up some additional best practices.
The conference is wrapping up today but if you were not able to attend, it's not too late to access great professional development and best practice content through the ICMA Virtual Conference.
