We’re traveling south November 7th and 8th to attend the 5th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit in Fort Lauderdale, Florida! ICMA is a sponsor of the event, which will feature a workshop about innovative tools for local adaptation and panels of city officials and federal agency representatives discussing disaster recovery and climate adaptation strategies.

Earlier this summer, CityLinks facilitated a week-long, city-to-city exchange among Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Broward County, Florida; and Durban, South Africa focused on climate adaptation. Susanne Torriente, ICMA member and assistant city manager in Fort Lauderdale, and Dr. Jennifer Jurado, director of Natural Resource Planning and Management in Broward County met with stakeholders in the EThekwini community and shared their experiences dealing with similar climate-related issues in Florida. For more information about this exchange, please read the complete article here.

Fort Lauderdale and Broward County are both part of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact, a group of four counties (Broward, Miami-Dade, Monroe, and Palm Beach) collaboratively working together to foster resilience to climate change. Their climate action plan, along with an implementation guide can be found on their website. This year, Fort Lauderdale and Broward County are hosting the Summit at the Broward County Convention Center and are anticipating more than 200 attendees.

If you live near the area, we’d love to have you join us at the Summit. Registration is $150 and only $50 for government employees, nonprofit workers, and students.
