Monday’s session on local government and the profession generated this foundational list. As leaders, remember to:
- Reflect on your personal spark and remember the beginning and what started your public service career.
- Build trusting relationships (keep promises, be emotionally present, behave predictably, foster “we” versus “me,” and understand risks and be capable of managing them.
- Measure judgment (collect all relevant and available data and information, boil down to the essence; and then act).
- Manage work (keep stress levels within a tolerable level; evaluate the intellectual and emotional challenges)
- Fuel your passion (determine what fuels your passion through both the dark times and the rainbows).
