Time is running out! ICMA members have only days remaining to submit applications for the 2025-2026 Regional Vice President positions. If you've been considering stepping up to serve the profession at the international level, now is the time to act. The deadline to submit an application is January 8, 2026.
Who Can Apply?
Eligibility varies by region based on ICMA's geographic and position-type rotation system. Here's what you need to know:
International Region
- Open to Full members serving as chief administrative officers in full-time, appointed positions to local governments in Canada.
Midwest Region
- Open to chief administrative officers and deputy/assistant CAOs (Full members) from Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana (Note: Due to 10-year representation limits, candidates from Michigan and Iowa may face additional selection considerations.)
Mountain Plains Region (Non-CAO Year)
- Open to Corporate (voting) members serving as non-chief administrative officers in any state in the Mountain Plains region. This includes assistants/deputies, department heads, entry to mid-level management, and other appointed local government professionals. Affiliate members with five years of local government service and five years of ICMA membership are eligible to apply.
Northeast Region
- Open to chief administrative officers and deputy/assistant CAOs (Full members) from Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont (Note: Massachusetts candidates may face additional selection considerations due to representation limits.)
Southeast Region
- Open to chief administrative officers and deputy/assistant CAOs (Full members) from Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia (Note: Tennessee candidates may face additional selection considerations due to representation limits)
West Coast Region (Non-CAO Year)
- Open to Corporate (voting) members serving as non-chief administrative officers in any state in the West Coast region. This includes assistants/deputies, department heads, entry to mid-level management, and other appointed local government professionals. Affiliate members with five years of local government service and five years of ICMA membership are eligible to apply.
