It is Intuitive that innovation has a relationship to leadership. In innovative organizations leadership comes from all levels of the organization; elected officials, managers, those in the middle as well as line staff.  It comes from everywhere, is encouraged and the organization does not have the typical hierarchical structure.

Leadership in innovative organizations is unselfish.  It isn’t about “look what I did” but rather “what we did”.  It gives credit to the entire team not just one person.  Additionally, it is about level 5 leaders.  As Jim Collins describes, level 5 leaders are ambitious for the cause first and foremost not themselves.

This quality is also about a leadership model that finds leaders in the organization; it encourages leaders to bring their leadership skills and ideas forward, no matter what position they hold.
