The call for candidates is closed, and the ICMA Executive Board will select the inaugural ICMA Leadership Advisory Board (LAB) in December 2015. Terms will be staggered at two, three, and four years.
The purpose of the LAB is to guide staff on implementation of the 2014 Leadership Task Force recommendations, advise the executive board on policy matters, adopt a definition of leadership, and make a recommendation to the Strategic Planning Task Force on how to revise the ICMA mission statement to reflect the commitment to leadership development and ethics as ICMA’s co-equal overarching priorities.
Members will likely find work on the LAB to be rewarding, but also a significant time commitment. Preliminary duties include:
- Adopt a definition of leadership based on the Leadership Task Force recommendations and information gathered by staff and members through surveys and conversations.
- Make a recommendation to the Strategic Planning Task Force on how to revise the ICMA mission statement.
- Follow through on assigned tasks by meeting deadlines, returning phone calls, responding to requests for input via e-mail, and so on.
- Participate in monthly or bimonthly conference calls.
- Advise the ICMA Executive Board on policy matters and staff on implementation of the Leadership Task Force recommendations.
- Attend the annual meeting of the Leadership Advisory Board at the ICMA conference.
- More specifics to be added after the Leadership Advisory Board completes its first year of work.
Top candidates will be asked to talk with the ICMA Executive Director regarding duties and time commitment, and the ICMA Executive Board will select the inaugural Leadership Advisory Board in December 2015.
