The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shootings continue to make headlines as a Florida state commission, local governments, civic groups, and public safety officials look at systemic and social changes to be considered.
Parkland, Florida, under the leadership of its city manager, has retained the Center for Public Safety Management (CPSM) to help the community review safety and security in the city and its schools. CPSM is the exclusive provider of public safety technical services to ICMA.
To support this effort, the center is inviting ICMA members to share information on programs implemented in their communities to improve safety/security for citizens and visitors. “City and county managers have been intensively working on ways to keep their communities safe—from implementing new communications protocols, to infrastructure changes like lighting systems, to supplemental law enforcement support,” said Leonard Matarese, founder of CPSM and ICMA public safety contributor. “We’re looking to leverage the expertise of ICMA members to both support this specific Parkland project and to create resources that would benefit other communities working on these issues,” he added.
