A survey on the Voluntary Credentialing Program will be sent by e-mail on Thursday, May 9, to all ICMA Credentialed Managers and Candidates, as well as all other ICMA members who are in direct service to local government. Complete it and be entered to win a complimentary registration to the 2013 ICMA Annual Conference in Boston!

If you have opted out of receiving ICMA surveys, but would like to receive this one, you must update your communication preferences.

Background

In preparation for the 10-year anniversary of the Voluntary Credentialing Program, in October 2011 the ICMA Credentialing Advisory Board agreed that staff should request approval from the ICMA Executive Board to talk to currently Credentialed Managers and those not yet eligible about the future of the program. In February 2012, the executive board granted that approval.

The purpose of the discussion with members was to determine likes, dislikes, ideas for the future, and the best way to develop a formal path to credentialing that spans the career stages of a member, as outlined in the 2008 ICMA Strategic Plan.

Between June 2012 and April 2013, ICMA conducted 19 discussion sessions. Three of these were national focus groups and 16 were structured discussions held at state association meetings or via webconferences. The feedback gathered during these sessions was used to create the survey that is scheduled to be sent by e-mail on May 9.

The Credentialing Advisory Board will use the survey results to guide its future deliberations and its recommendations to the executive board. Look for the survey, and thank you for taking the time to assist in this important activity. Contact credentialing@icma.org with questions.
