The Boulder Police Department is teaming up with Boulder Parks and Recreation Department to celebrate good behavior through a new program called Boulder Stars.

Starting today, Officers will issue ‘stars’ to children (ages 3-18) caught in the act of doing something good. Appropriate “offenses” include but are not limited to helping another person, wearing bicycle helmets, observing crosswalk rules and participating in a positive activity in the community. A Boulder Star can be redeemed for one free day pass to any of the city’s recreation centers, pools or the Boulder Reservoir. A parent or guardian can accompany a child under the age of 12 at no cost.

“The Boulder Star’s Program was developed as a way for our officers to connect with younger members in our community in a non-law enforcement situation and establish rapport,” said Police Chief Greg Testa.

Though the reasons for being “ticketed” may vary, the end result is the same for every youngster; a fun day of recreation and a smile.
