Leading Through Actions
Through Republic Services’ climate leadership initiatives, commitment translates into action. The company sees sustainability as a platform for growth for its communities and partners, and offers an extensive infrastructure to help meet these growth goals.
Republic Services operates 71 recycling centers which process 5 million tons of materials every year. Its organics facilities divert food and yard waste from the landfill and recycle it into renewable energy and compost, and modern landfills capture waste while protecting groundwater and reducing fugitive emissions, all actions creating healthier neighborhoods.
Innovation in Sustainability
Republic Services’ environmental services programs provide many opportunities for innovation in sustainability.
Republic Services is opening a Polymer Center, a one-of-a-kind facility which will advance plastics circularity, turning today’s recycling into tomorrow’s new packaging.
In addition, the company continues to invest in renewable energy, with 65 landfill gas-to energy projects in operation today and another 40 coming by 2027.
And finally, Republic Services has made an industry-leading commitment to electrify its fleet. By 2028, half of its new truck purchases will be EVs.
