Gainesville's Solar Feed-in Tariff (FIT) program is a leading example of the transformative impacts local governments and municipally owned utilities can have on community-wide adoption of solar technologies.  The program owes much of its success to collaboration, and to the willingness of partners to embrace innovation in pursuit of community energy goals.  As the costs of solar continue to decrease, local governments-especially those with municipally owned utilities-may benefit from Gainesville's experience in implementing their own FIT system.
