TOWN MANAGER

The Town of Vassalboro, Maine is accepting applications for the position of Town Manager. Vassalboro is located in Kennebec County in central Maine next to the capital city of Augusta. This charming rural town is convenient to service centers, has outstanding recreational offerings such as fishing, boating, hiking trails and golf courses and the home to the Maine Criminal Justice Academy. It is known for its rural charm, natural beauty, and strong community spirit.

Vassalboro operates under Select Board/Town Manager/Town Meeting form of government. The 5 members of the Select Board are elected for staggered 3-year terms. It has a year-round population of 4,653. Vassalboro employs 11 full-time staff, 4 part-time staff, and 25 call firefighters. The Town has an annual budget of $3.6 million exclusive of schools.

The Select Board is seeking candidates with strong knowledge/experience in areas of budget/finance, grant writing and implementation, human resources, planning, policy and personnel management. The Town Manager is also the Tax Collector and Treasurer of the Town so experience and knowledge in these areas are necessary. Strong background and awareness of technology and its application in a municipal setting is desired. Superior supervisory and organizational skills, excellent written and oral communications, as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required. Leadership with integrity, honesty, openness and humor combined with creative problem solving and with the ability to work with a diverse and active citizen base is essential. Living in Vassalboro is not mandatory.

The Select Board is looking for candidates with a bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, or a closely related field and five years of municipal management experience. While this level of education and experience is preferred, candidates with differing experiences are encouraged to apply. Salary range is $100,000 to $120,000 and will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
