The City of Tallahassee has a Commission-Manager form of government. The City Commission consists of the Mayor and four Commissioners, all of whom are elected at-large and serve staggered four-year terms. The City of Tallahassee operates with an annual combined operating and capital budget of approximately $1.2 billion for Fiscal Year 2026 and manages assets totaling approximately $5.98 billion, including pension assets.
The City Commission appoints the City Manager, City Auditor, City Attorney, and City Treasurer-Clerk. The City Manager is the Chief Administrative Officer responsible for implementing policies adopted by the Commission and for the general administration of the City, with support from the Deputy City Manager and three (3) Assistant City Managers. The City is a full-service city with a workforce consisting of nearly 4,000 employees. Services include public safety (police and fire), Aviation, Transit, and Utilities, including electric, natural gas, water, wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste, among others. The City has a collaborative, solutions-oriented culture with a strong emphasis on customer service.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Public or Business Administration and at least ten (10) years of senior management experience in public administration, preferably with a municipality of similar size and complexity; a Master’s degree is preferred. At least six (6) years of required experience must be in a supervisory capacity. An equivalent combination of education and experience that incorporates the required skills, knowledge, and abilities may be considered. The salary range is open; the starting salary will depend on qualifications. The first review of resumes will begin on August 3, 2026; the position is open until filled.
