The Village of Arlington Heights is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical professional to join its Finance Department as a Financial Analyst. This position plays an important role in supporting the Village’s financial operations through budget analysis, accounting, payroll support, and financial reporting. The Financial Analyst contributes to sound financial management and data-driven decision-making to support the delivery of high-quality municipal services.
In this role, the Financial Analyst works closely with Finance Department staff and other Village departments to analyze financial data, identify trends, and support operational and budgetary decisions. Responsibilities include researching and evaluating financial information, monitoring revenue and expenditures, preparing reports and presentations, tracking operational metrics, and supporting the Village’s annual audit process. The position also performs accounting functions including preparing journal entries, reconciling financial transactions, and maintaining records.
The Financial Analyst supports weekly payroll processing and serves as a backup to the Payroll Coordinator. The position contributes to annual filings, financial reporting requirements, and special projects as needed. This role also plays an active role in continuous improvement efforts by evaluating financial processes, leveraging technology to enhance tools and workflows, and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and decision-making.
The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical, accounting, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to communicate complex financial information. Successful candidates will demonstrate attention to detail, strong mathematical aptitude, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining accuracy and confidentiality. An Associate degree or two years of college coursework in accounting, finance, or a related field is required. A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field is preferred. Candidates should have at least two years of relevant professional experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The anticipated starting salary for this position is between $82,190 - $84,464, depending on qualifications, with a full salary range of $82,190 - $110,956. The Financial Analyst will work a 37.5-hour work week and be offered a competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, professional development opportunities and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan.
