Job Summary
The Office of the County Administrator is seeking a qualified Management Fellow for the FY 2027 – FY 2028 (two year) cohort. This is a full-time, paid, two-year fellowship. Fellows will serve as staff within the Office of Management and Budget and will embark on unique, substantive projects throughout the County Government organization. For each project assignment, the fellows will be physically located in the associated department’s office, with direct supervision and mentorship provided by the project sponsor.
Fellows will complete three to five short-term projects annually. Projects are designed to provide experience with developing research, analytical, and written communication skills. Past Management Fellow projects have included:
Development of an Employee Resource Group focused on mentorship and professional development of targeted employee groups
Providing research and data analysis, including geospatial data, to support departmental efforts including public outreach and internal survey data analysis
Performing process audits to guide the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Support to the legislative program during the Virginia General Assembly legislative session
Leading the development of an online platform for performance measures by exploring PowerBI and Tableau for data visualization of multi-department measures for public reporting
Many past fellows have been hired into permanent roles with the County, though permanent employment is not guaranteed following the two years. Fellows will have the opportunity to join the International City/County Management Association’s (ICMA) Local Government Management Fellowship cohort, which includes attendance at annual ICMA conferences.
Fellows are eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance; matching contributions to deferred compensation plan; and paid holidays, annual, and sick leave benefits.
This fellowship begins on or around July 1, 2026, and ends on or around June 30, 2028.
Hiring salary is commensurate with experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must complete a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA), Public Policy (MPP), Business Administration (MBA), or related field by August 31, 2026. Proof of degree conference is required.
