Finance Director

The City of Washington is seeking a motivated and experienced Finance Director to lead our Finance Department in delivering high-quality financial services that support sustainability, transparency, and long-term growth.
Under the direction of the City Administrator, the Finance Director plays a critical leadership role in managing the City’s financial operations and customer service team. This includes oversight of general accounting, collections and disbursements, payroll, purchasing, utility billing, and other essential fiscal activities. The Finance Director ensures these operations align with the City’s strategic and operational goals.
This position also contributes significantly to the City's financial planning by assisting in the development of the Annual Budget, Capital Improvement Plan, and Tax Levy, as well as managing the preparation of the annual audit.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Champions the entire finance department within the City of Washington. Direct and oversee all municipal accounting functions and financial reporting.
• Support the City Administrator in preparing the City’s Annual Budget and Capital Improvement Plan.
• Oversee the City’s annual audit process and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
• Responsible for the maintenance of the enterprise resource program (ERP), including training, enhancements, and liaison for support issues.
• Advise on financial strategy, risk management, and long-term fiscal planning.
• Ensure accuracy, accountability, and transparency in all financial matters.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, along with five or more years of progressively responsible related work experience or any equivalent combination of experience, training, and education.
Local government experience and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred but not required.
