This is an exciting opportunity to work in South Carolina’s oldest inland City with a rich history and heritage. The City of Camden, with a population of over 8,000 within 11 square miles, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Finance Director. The FY 2025 annual budget is $56 million. The Finance Director is responsible for organizing, directing, and managing all accounting and financial operations of the City of Camden. This includes; overall financial management and operating, accounting, reporting, budgeting, payroll, procurement, debt issuance, compliance, management, internal auditing and financial record keeping.

The successful candidate will be a professional, ethical, experienced leader that provides strategic guidance and direction for the overall core financial functions of the City of Camden. The successful candidate has a record of success in leadership and management of finance functions within a public/governmental organization. This candidate has the ability to identify and implement new innovative approaches that fosters a collaborative leadership style, encourages teamwork, promotes staff initiative, and addresses budget questions/concerns/issues with diplomacy and tact. This highly skilled candidate must demonstrate experience in positive communication (written and oral formats), delegation, mentoring, and strategic thoughtful leadership. Candidate is detailed-oriented strategic individual who sees the big picture and long-term vision for the City of Camden.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, accounting or related degree from an accredited university or college plus five (5) years of diversified experience in finance, including considerable experience, at least two (2) years, in an administrative capacity. A Master’s degree, CPA or Certified Local Government Finance Officer is preferred. Extensive knowledge, and skills of accounting software required; working knowledge of budgetary accounting and reporting systems, GAAFR, GAAP, and GASB. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. A valid South Carolina Driver’s License or the ability to obtain within 60 days of relocation is required.

The hiring range for the Finance Director is $85,000 to $100,000 depending on experience and qualifications. The City provides a competitive state benefits package including health, dental and vision insurance, short-term disability, South Carolina Retirement System (SCRS), and a phone stipend.
