Assistant City Manager

• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
• Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
• Assists the City Manager with the overall operation of the City’s management structure; participates in interviewing and hiring, ensures appropriate training, conducts performance coaching and evaluation, participates with the leadership team in establishing vision and direction, goals and policies.
• Provides direction, leadership, supervision and guidance to department heads and assigned staff and exercises management control and supervision of multiple assigned functions and/or departments and significant resources.
• Creates and monitors selected projects and capital improvements.
• Assists the City Manager's office in developing agenda items and coordinating agenda.
• Responds to a wide variety of citizen issues and requests and monitory results of the requests to other departments.
• Researches and drafts policies for consideration and implementation by the City Manager and the Council; evaluates and recommends various strategies for City functions, departments, and programs; engages in considerable problem-solving with City staff, citizens and others; coordinates inter-departmental projects.
• Interprets, explains, and answers questions on City ordinances and policies for the public, news media, and City staff.
• Performs related work as assigned.
