The Village of Arlington Heights is seeking a Community Events Specialist with a passion for creating memorable community events for all to enjoy. This hands-on professional will plan, promote, and execute the Village’s signature events throughout the year—including the Sounds of Summer Concert Series, Swing into Spring, Harmony Fest featuring the Taste of Arlington Heights, Autumn Harvest, and the Tree Lighting Ceremony. The Community Events Specialist will also provide assistance for other events such as the Community Bike Ride, Community Open House, and the Hearts of Gold Awards and will collaborate with Human Resources with planning and outreach for employee-focused events.

From budgeting and logistics to vendor coordination, sponsorships, and creative marketing, this role ensures each event is engaging, well-executed, and widely celebrated. The ideal candidate is a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and resourceful team player who excels at building positive relationships with colleagues, partners, and community members. The Community Events Specialist will also support Village-wide communications and outreach efforts.

The preferred candidate will hold a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Event Management, Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Hospitality, or a related field. Three to five years of demonstrated success in community event planning, ideally in a municipal or nonprofit setting, is strongly desired. The position requires strong vendor management, budgeting, and negotiation skills, along with the proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills are essential, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with design and social media management tools such as Canva and Hootsuite is preferred, along with experience producing social media posts and event messaging.

The starting salary for this position is $69,390 (with a full range of $69,390 - $93,675). The Community Events Specialist will work a 37.5-hour work week and will be offered a diverse and competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, opportunities for professional development and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan. This position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays during events. An adjusted schedule will be provided. The ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions is also required.
