Village of Hanover Park, Illinois (pop. 37,470) Hanover Park, Illinois, is seeking an experienced professional Village Manager to lead our vibrant and thriving community. Located just 30 miles northwest of Chicago and spanning both Cook and DuPage Counties, Hanover Park is a Home Rule municipality with an impressive AA Bond rating. It serves as home to over 600 businesses, from small family-owned businesses to large, globally recognized Fortune 500 companies.
A seven-member legislative body comprised of the Village President and six Trustees each elected to a staggered four-year term governs the Village. The Mayor appoints the Village Manager with the consent of the Trustees. As the Chief Administrative Officer, the Manager is responsible for day-to-day Village operations and appointment of Village Department Heads and the Deputy Village Manager. The Village has an annual operating budget of $90.7 million, with approximately 220 full-time equivalent employees who work in 7 operating departments: Community and Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Police, and Public Works. The current village manager is retiring with 36 years of municipal experience and after 13 years with the Village.
● The position requires a master’s degree in public administration, business administration, or related field, a minimum of six to ten years related experience in local government in a leadership position, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
● Candidates must be experienced local government leaders with a commitment to excellence in customer service, fiscal discipline, integrity, and transparency in local government. The selected candidate must seek to partner with elected officials, staff, intergovernmental agencies, and the community.
● Candidates must have a management and leadership style that reflects steadfastness to lead with conviction, collaboration, teambuilding, approachability and an energetic, professional demeanor. Candidates will be called upon regularly for community interaction and engagement requiring superior presentation skills and experience as a proven collaborator.
● Candidates will demonstrate fiscal experience, particularly related to maintaining the Village’s strong financial position, capital improvement financing and execution.
● Candidates will demonstrate knowledge and success in business attraction and retention and be attentive to community appearance, revitalization of key commercial corridors, continued development of the Villages transit oriented Village Center and an overall commitment to strengthen economic development efforts.
● Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal skills, an approachable, service oriented style and a proven record in effective service delivery and creative problem solving.
● Candidates must bring a strong strategic focus that will guide the Village into the future, building upon its current planning, progress and success as a safe and welcoming community.
Residency is not required. Anticipated starting salary: $230,000-$265,000 +/- DOQ plus eligibility for an annual performance increase.
