Position Summary:
Under the direction of the City Manager, this position has full responsibility for the City's public information and engagement efforts; develops, leads, and champions a comprehensive strategic community engagement plan that builds public awareness of City initiatives, programs, services, policies, and events; coordinates communications across departments; prepares, disseminates and makes available clear, accurate, and timely public information materials; acts as the City's initial point of contact for all media relations; advises staff on messaging and public interactions; and continues to build the City's brand.
Essential Duties:
The Public Engagement Manager is responsible for supporting the organization's communication and engagement efforts by developing and executing communication strategies, creating and managing content for various platforms, organizing outreach efforts, and managing the City brand across all platforms.
Through strategic communications, engagement and marketing plans, this position will manage the initiation, execution, and budget monitoring for creative or content creation campaigns that advance City goals. This role usually involves knowledge of digital marketing software, tools, and methods with a focus on content and SEO.
This position will be tasked with building and maintaining a brand identity and online presence. This may involve developing physical and digital content strategies, managing a content team or consultants, growing a community of stakeholders and engaged residents, and tracking that community's growth, among other duties as assigned.
• Content Creation and Management: Developing engaging content for websites, social media, email marketing, newsletters, and other platforms.
• Strategic Communication: Assisting with the development and implementation of overall communication strategies.
• Media Relations: Creates press releases, media outreach, and media monitoring. Acting as Public Information Officer (PIO) as needed.
• Social Media Management: Managing social media accounts, creating content, engaging with followers, and tracking analytics.
• Website Content Management: Working with the City IT department to maintain and update the organization's website, ensuring it reflects the latest information and branding.
• Email Marketing: Creating and managing email campaigns to reach specific audiences.
• Event Support: Assisting with the planning and promotion of events, including event marketing and communication.
• Brand Management: Supporting the organization's brand, ensuring consistency in messaging and visual identity throughout all media.
• Reporting and Analytics: Monitoring communication performance, analyzing data, and providing reports to improve strategies.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Working with other teams to ensure alignment on communication efforts.
Qualifications:
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in communications, journalism, marketing, public relations, English or related field. A minimum of two (2) years' experience or in a similar role, preferably in a local government setting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Highly computer literate and advanced knowledge of software programs such as Canva, Adobe, Microsoft Office, Etc. Proficiency with popular content management systems. Experience with social media management.
Licensing, Certification, and Other Requirements:
Must have a valid Arizona driver's license by the time of hire. Must be able to work occasional non-traditional working hours and weekends.

Physical Demands And Working Conditions:
