City Administrator

City of Palos Heights, IL

The City of Palos Heights is seeking applications from highly qualified individuals for the position of City Administrator. Palos Heights is a southwest suburb of the City of Chicago with a population of 12,068 residents.

The position is appointed by and reports to the Mayor and City Council. The following are some of the major areas of responsibility of the City Administrator in Palos Heights:
• Preparation and administration of the annual operating and capital improvements budget
• Oversight of the City’s financial management policies and practices
• Oversight of all operating departments including the supervision of all department directors
• Coordination and communication with various intergovernmental agencies
• Negotiation and administration of collective bargaining agreements
• Administration and oversight of various service contracts
• Economic development activities
• Human resource administration and management
City departments include Police, Public Works, Recreation, Lake Katherine Nature Center, Economic Development, general offices, and Building Department.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess a working knowledge of all government operations, including budget development policies and procedures, significant knowledge of mission and operation of various City Departments, and have experience working with elected officials.

• Bachelor Degree in Public Administration or related field, Master preferred.
• Ten years of progressively responsible local government experience, and a minimum five years experience in a top management position, preferable as the chief administrative officer; and,
• Knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations; and,
• Strong leadership abilities with a proven track record of collaboration, team building, and consensus building; and,
• Experience working in a suburban environment with multiple neighboring communities and public service jurisdictions.

The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $190,000, based on qualifications and experience. The City also offers a generous benefit package which includes paid time off as well as competitive health insurance options, the ability to participate in a 457 deferred comp plan, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund program (IMRF).
