Wakefield, MA (27,000 pop.), is seeking an experienced municipal leader who is adept at managing growth, skilled at bringing people of different backgrounds and generations together, comfortable engaging with residents, and a skilled communicator, to serve as Town Administrator. Wakefield is picturesque New England community with beautiful Lake Quannapowitt as its centerpiece. Ideally located at the intersection of two major highways (Interstates 93 and 95), Wakefield is less than 15 miles north of Boston in Middlesex County. Wakefield has an AAA rating and FY25 budget of $143.8M. Wakefield has an Open Meeting form of government with a seven-member Town Council and a Town Administrator. Preferred candidates will have a master’s degree (bachelor’s degree required), preferably in public administration or a related field and at least 5 years of full-time paid experience as a City or Town Administrator or Assistant City or Town Administrator. Preferred candidates must be proficient in municipal financial management, budgeting, and long-term planning. Candidates who are eager to engage and interact with the community and are politically savvy, are collaborative team builders who are willing to delegate, and have a background in economic development strategies and planning, are preferred.
