Job Summary:

This professional position is responsible for building the City’s brand identity, including promoting city services, events, and programs across the organization’s departments, divisions, programs, and strategic initiatives. The focus of this role is managing and administering the City’s communications and marketing initiatives, with an emphasis on social media, the website, email marketing, and other communication efforts. The position plays a central role in developing and executing communication strategies and campaigns to connect residents, businesses, and visitors to city services while inspiring community pride.

Work is performed with considerable independence, under the guidance and direction of the Communications and Marketing Manager and the Communications and Engagement Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Management

Develop, implement, and manage social media content and strategies that are consistent with City messaging and align with City brand positioning across all platforms.

Track and analyze the performance of campaigns, including social media metrics, website traffic, and email campaign effectiveness, to refine strategies and enhance outreach.

Effectively manage projects and priorities to ensure the fulfillment of department, division, and program goals, tasks, and responsibilities.

Collaborate with departments to align their needs with the City's vision, creating social media and website content that meets both and connects with the community.

Oversee website and social media content management, ensuring that all content is current, accurate, and aligned with the City's branding and communication goals.

Adhere to best practices, policies, and procedures to maintain the highest standards of brand management.

Technical

Create, schedule, and distribute marketing content, including social media posts, website updates, and email newsletters, to ensure strategic alignment to drive awareness and participation in City programs

Develop and manage advertising and public awareness campaigns to promote City services, events, and programs across various channels, including print media, social media, search engines, email and text, and third-party websites

Write engaging content and capture high-quality photos and videos that align with departmental goals and initiatives for various platforms, to effectively promote City services, events, and programs, promote public relations initiatives and enhance the City's connection and transparency with the community.

Track and manage expenses and advertising budgets related to digital communications, ensuring resources are used effectively and within budget

Create social media and website content, including reels, photos, graphics, infographics, short-form video, and copy, ensuring all materials are visually engaging and consistent with the City's brand guidelines

Serve as the City’s Public Information Officer, or support the communications team, during Emergency Operations

Performs related work as required.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE STATUS: As a condition of employment, City of Largo employees will be required to work as directed during an undeclared and/or a declared emergency. All employees are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the normal work location, and may include duties other than those specified in the official job description.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in communications, marketing, or a closely related field and four (4) years of experience in full-time work in mass media, advertising, public relations, or publishing; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
Valid Driver's License

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of key concepts and best practices in strategic communications, marketing, public relations, and digital/social media management
Intermediate knowledge of effective graphic and video content design
Basic knowledge of HTML and experience working within a content management system
Ability to build relationships with internal team members, media, and the public
Comfortable with public speaking and able to communicate in writing with clarity and accuracy
Proficiency in industry-standard software, including but not limited to Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Canva
