The City of Warrenton, Oregon (population 6,462) is recruiting its next Building Official. Warrenton sits on the northwestern tip of the Oregon Coast in Clatsop County with borders from the Columbia River and the Pacific Ocean. Warrenton offers uncompromised forest, beach, river, and mountain beauty. The city is an active, rural community with a small-town feel a spirit of volunteerism. Its geographic location also offers easy access to other coastal area attractions and a 1.5-hour drive away from the Portland metropolitan area.

Under the direction of the City Manager, the Building Official provides leadership and oversight of the Building Department and serves as a key member of the City’s management team and development team (Building, Planning, and Public Works). The Building Department is responsible for comprehensive enforcement of building, plumbing, mechanical, and fire and life safety codes of the State of Oregon. This division ensures that commercial and industrial buildings, residential dwellings, and public buildings such as schools and government buildings are constructed in conformance with all regulatory codes to ensure the continued safety and well-being of all members of the community. The Building Official supervises 1 FTE position.

The ideal candidate possesses and has demonstrated the following attributes:
• Strong leadership and management abilities
• Demonstrated experience with code interpretation and building experience
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience working with intergovernmental agreements and contracted staff
• Commitment to being a positive City representative in business, intergovernmental, and community relations
• Knowledge of floodplain and emergency management considerations
• Public finance skills
• An appreciation Warrenton’s community attributes

A minimum of at least two years of experience as a senior building inspector with management responsibilities as well as a State of Oregon Building Official certification (or ICC CBO certification) and Oregon Inspector Certification (OIC) and valid Oregon driver’s license are required. Combinations of relevant education and experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform essential functions may be considered.

Compensation is $75,837 to $92,181 (DOQ) plus excellent benefits
