Deputy City Manager - Administrative Services

The City Manager Team (CMT) consists of the City Manager, Assistant City Manager, and, with the hiring of this position, three Deputy City Managers, each over a workgroup. Together, the CMT, under the general direction of the City Manager, provides leadership through collaboration, teamwork, and active engagement for the 15 departments and divisions that provide world-class programs and services to the Rancho Cucamonga community.

The members of the City Manager Team are professional local government managers who strengthen democracy and accountability at the local level by bringing ethical, effective, and efficient practices to local government, maintaining political neutrality, placing the overall welfare of the community first, and bringing a wide and diverse perspective to policies and programs. The CMT works in partnership with elected and appointed officials, residents, and businesses to fulfill the City Council’s vision to create an equitable, sustainable, and vibrant city, rich in opportunity for all to thrive.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC

You’ll be responsible for:

Supporting the City Council’s Mission and Vision: Working with the CMT, the Deputy City Manager will provide organizational leadership through collaboration, teamwork, and active involvement in the management of city government.

Navigating the Organizational Seas: Provide expert advice on administrative matters, ensuring Team RC understands not just the how, but the why behind administrative policies and procedures.

Head Coach of the Administrative Workgroup: Directly oversee the Finance, Human Resources, and Innovation and Technology departments—the heartbeat of our City’s operations.

Ensuring Financial Stability and Sustainability: Orchestrate and support the Finance Department’s budgeting, accounting, procurement, and treasury services.

Growing an Engaged Workforce: Lead and support the Human Resources’ recruitment, retention, benefit & risk management programs, along with organizational labor relations.

Trailblazing New Technology and Systems: Architect and support the information technology, geographic information systems, and cybersecurity programs in the Department of Innovation and Technology.

Community Detective: Analyze reports, studies, bids, contracts, and similar items; direct high-profile community studies, regional programs, and surveys.

Policy Pioneer: Shape decisions through research and policy recommendations for balancing resources and programs to ensure a resilient city.

Mentoring Managers and Executives: Guide and develop employees’ ongoing professional growth.

Leading Leaders: Empower, encourage, and engage with executives and managers to strategically realize the City Council's vision.
