IT Manager

City of Cortez, CO

Establish and maintain standards for network equipment, support, maintenance, and replacement lifecycle.

Evaluate, recommend, implement and maintain products for city network, internet access and web filtering, network data backup and storage, client/server anti-virus and network security.

Supervise configuration, administration and maintenance of VMware virtual server platform and associated network storage. Supervise performance tuning of virtual server and storage platforms across the organization to ensure high levels of data quality, availability, and security.

Provide highly complex user support; assist City personnel in the selection, purchase and implementation of network hardware and software; assist in the preparation of system, program, security, and user policies and procedures.

Manage the work of Network Engineer and Systems Analyst operations through operations staffing, including recruitment, supervision, scheduling, development, evaluation, and disciplinary actions.

Expand professional and technical skills and abilities by maintaining membership in professional associations, attending educational workshops, analyzing professional publications, and establishing personal networks

Responsible for researching logical software upgrades and options. Suggests options for long-range software planning

Diagnose and resolve problems regarding all facets of the network. Develop and maintain network standards, procedures and other technical documentation. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enable and ensure the compatibility and connectivity of all networks with the City. Serve as technical consultant for other City departments and serve as liaison on committees, evaluation groups and negotiating teams for associated projects.

Responsible for developing annual budgets, and monitoring expenditures including tracking purchase orders, invoices, equipment, software, warranties, and license purchases. Prepares and presents to City Council contracts and equipment purchases for approval.

Seeks ongoing input and regular communication with the IT team.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Highly advanced knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and wireless configuration utilizing technologies such as VLAN, VPN, TCP/IP. Understanding of pertinent Federal, State, and local laws, codes and regulations. Expertise in computer software including word processing, spreadsheet, database applications and specialized software consistent for this position. Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in computer science or a closely related field. Minimum Experience: Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in information systems with emphasis on networking, cybersecurity, server virtualization, and overall operations of an IT organization. Or a combination of education training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position duties and responsibilities. Must have a valid Colorado Driver’s License.
