Lindström, MN (population 4,888) seeks an experienced, strategic, and collaborative leader for its next City Administrator. The City of Lindström is a full-service city and has a 2023 adopted all-funds budget of approximately $12.3 million which includes the general fund budget of $3.3 million and 12 FTEs. The City Administrator is appointed by the Mayor and City Council and oversees all day-to-day operations for the city, which include Administration, Public Works, a municipal on-sale and off-sale liquor store and policing contract that serves Chisago City and Lindström.

Lindström is known as American’s Little Sweden and is conveniently located only 35 miles from the Minneapolis/St. Paul metropolitan area and is rich with natural amenities. The city offers access to numerous area lakes, parks, and trails, including the Chisago Lakes Area Water Trail and the 130 acre Allemandsträt Wilderness Park, which provide abundant opportunities for recreation year-round.

Lindstrom’s downtown offers a vibrant mix of art galleries, upscale boutiques and specialty stores and dining. The city is regularly and nationally recognized as an attractive community in which to live, work and play, a unique opportunity to have small town charm with access to metropolitan amenities.

While proud of its history, Lindström is focused on the future and identifying opportunities for increased economic development and investment, which will be a priority for the next administrator. The next administrator should be an approachable and empathetic leader able to develop partnership and relationships with diverse constituencies. The next city administrator will also be skilled in all aspects of local government with a proven track record of success.

Candidate Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, urban studies, community development or a related field; A master’s degree is desirable.
• A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in municipal administration.
• Skilled in finance, budgeting, and capital planning.
• Skilled in collaboration and team building with a variety of groups and individuals.
• Experienced and knowledgeable in economic development, including the knowledge and use of incentives to attract and retain investment.
• Knowledgeable in human resources management and labor relations.

The starting salary range is $110,000 to $140,000 DOQ. The City of Lindström provides a comprehensive benefit package.
