The City of Durango seeks a highly-motivated, visionary professional to join the team to lead efforts to align land use and development standards with the broader aspirations of the community and strategic direction of the community, City Council and Executive Leadership Team.

The Community Development team is comprised of high-performing individuals who care deeply about the community. This position will work with the entire Community Development team and other Departments to craft code amendments and launch new initiatives which will support the achievement of identified community objectives.
This individual should be well-versed in current best practices regarding land use and development standards, sustainable growth, well-designed infill and adaptive reuse, innovative regulatory and financial arrangements which support locally-owned businesses and small-scale developers, effective use of technology to ensure transparency and effectiveness in the development review process, and successful community engagement methodologies.

Individuals with a diverse mix of education and experience may be considered, but the following guidance is provided as desired minimum qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in planning, landscape architecture, political science, public administration, geography or a related field is required. A Master’s degree preferred. Four (4) year of progressivity responsible experience in urban planning, local government, real estate development, finance, or a related field. A combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the position duties and responsibilities will also be considered.
The starting salary will be dependent on qualifications. The range for this pay grade is from $62,358 - $93,535.
