The City of Janesville (population 64,415), located in south-central Wisconsin, is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of Information Technology Director. This full-time, exempt position will perform highly responsible and complex administrative, professional, and technical work developing, installing, and maintaining of the City of Janesville’s Information Technology resources. As a key member of the leadership team, this position is primarily responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and evaluating the technical support activities related to the computer systems within the City organization. This position guides the leveraging of technology to support efficient and effective municipal operations while balancing information/network protection with public access to information and transparency in government. The Information Technology Director will supervise an IT Office staff comprised of five full-time employees and two part-time interns. This position will report directly to the City Manager.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree in management information systems, computer science, business administration, or closely related field is required. A master’s degree in one of the above fields is preferred. A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible, professional level experience in information technology management experience, coupled with at least three (3) years of project management, system analysis, or multi-platform system integration experience is required. This position also requires a minimum of three (3) years of supervisory management experience. Prior experience in a public sector setting, preferably with a municipality or county preferred. A combination of equivalent experience, education, or professional training which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the position as determined by the Human Resources Office may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.
Candidates with experience in Microsoft Windows and Server software, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Visual Studio, Apple IOS, Android, SQL Query language applications, database platforms, and standard development platforms are desired. The successful candidate must pass an FBI criminal background check and fingerprinting, which will be conducted by the Janesville Police Department, and successfully pass a financial background check.
The starting salary range for this position is $110,000 firm, with the opportunity to earn up to a 5% merit increase after six months based on job performance. The City offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes participation in the Wisconsin Retirement System (50% City-paid), health insurance including medical, dental, and vision coverage (also available to dependents), and life insurance. The City also offers paid vacation,
holidays, sick leave, deferred compensation plans, and professional memberships. Residency in the city limits of Janesville is not required.
