The City of Cornelius, Oregon (population 13,498) is recruiting its next City Manager. This position is an excellent opportunity for an experienced public manager to lead the City in its next chapter of growth management, municipal service delivery, and community engagement. Located west of Portland, Cornelius is in the heart of the Silicon Forest, providing the best of urban and rural worlds with convenient access to Oregon’s coast, mountains, wine country, and amenities of a large metropolitan area. The second most diverse city in Oregon, over 50% of the population identifies as Latino/a/x. An All-American City Winner (2019), Cornelius is community oriented with a family-friendly, small-town atmosphere.

The City seeks a City Manager with excellent management and leadership skills, proficient in all aspects of municipal government management with cultural competency and a leadership approach that cultivates equity and inclusion. Experience in community/economic development, urban renewal, budgeting, public infrastructure planning and management, and fire service planning and management is highly desired. A genuine appreciation for Cornelius’ diverse and vibrant community and a commitment to public engagement utilizing effective collaboration and communication skills is essential.

As the administrative head of the City serving at the pleasure of the City Council, the City Manager supervises 45.8 full-time equivalent employees and oversees an annual budget of approximately $69.9 million. Compensation is $140,000 - $175,000 (DOQ) annually with excellent benefits.
A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Planning, Political Science, or related field, and at least three years of upper-level government management experience are required or equivalent education and experience. An advanced degree in Public Administration or related field (e.g., Master of Public Administration), and/or five years of increasingly responsible public sector experience is preferable. Experience and/or training in economic development, public finance, and Spanish language proficiency and/or experience working with diverse and Latino/a/x communities is highly desired.
