The city of Aurora, Colorado, Veterans Salute program was nominated to the 2005 ICMA Annual Awards Program. The city and the Buckley Air Force Base celebrate Aurora's rich military history through the Veterans Salute, a recognition of Veterans' Day and those locally who have served in any branch of the U.S. military. Thanks to the special relationship between Aurora and event host Buckely Air Force Base, yearly participation in Veterans Salute has grown from a few hundred in 1990 to over 500 in 2004.
