This two-hour interactive workshop is meant to provide local government leaders with an overview of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI) as well as practical use and knowledge required to develop your own organization’s AI strategy. The workshop will cover the following key topics.

  1. A brief overview of AI with a focus on Generative AI
  2. Introduction to freely available tools including ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Microsoft Copilot
  3. Hands-on activities with use cases in local government including Human Resources, Procurement, Legal, Communication, and risk management. (At least an hour dedicated to this item)
  4. Discussion on the risks and ethical considerations in the use of GenAI
  5. Resources and guidance on how to develop an AI strategy.

The workshop will be conducted over these five topics and each topic will include a mix of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on activities. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a solid foundation in AI and GenAI, as well as the tools and knowledge required to develop an AI strategy for your organization.

Learning Objectives:

  • Foundational knowledge on the basics of AI and GenAI: Participants will learn about the fundamental concepts, including uses and applications in local government. They will also gain an understanding of the benefits and limitations in the use GenAI.
  • Practical Use: Participants will be introduced to freely available GenAI tools such as ChatGPT, Google Bard, and Microsoft Copilot.
  • Here, they will learn how to use these tools to generate text, code, and other content for use cases in local government.
  • Risk and Ethical Considerations in the use of GenAI: Participants will learn about the potential risks and ethical considerations in the use of GenAI, including data privacy, bias, and transparency. They will also learn how to identify and mitigate these risks.
