This article provides a general overview of environmental management systems (EMS). It presents the advantages of EMS and discusses the ISO 14001 model of EMS developed by the International Organization for Standardization. The article also explains potential costs of implementing an EMS, possible ways of procuring funding for implementation, and includes a list of Internet resources relevant to EMS's.
