This article highlights functions state organizations can have in supporting city managers who are under fire or who have been terminated. It summarizes a California City Manager’s Foundation study into city manager termination that is currently in progress. It also outlines programs for under-fire and terminated local government managers conducted by state organizations in Florida, Iowa, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Texas, and Virginia.
