The city of Aurora, Colorado, "In Partnership with Businesses" was nominated to the 2005 ICMA Annual Awards Program. The decline of Aurora's retail and commercial hubs, closure of nearby Lowry Air Force Base and the Fitsimons Army Medical Center have hurt local businesses on East Colfax Avenue in a major way. "In Partnership with Business" assigns representatives from the nonprofit sector and several city agencies to deliver much-needed and timely information to more than 130 East Colfax buisnesses. The program's bottom-line focus and friendly delivery has helped the city of Aurora establish an ongoing, meaningful rapport with East Colfax business owners.
