This PowerPoint presentation, developed by Mike Bellot of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Office of Solid Waste and Emergency Response, provides an overview of EPA’s policy on the use of institutional controls (ICs) in site remediation. The presentation provides 1) background information on the use of ICs in environmental remediation, 2) a description of EPA’s IC guidance documents, and 3) information on the development of an IC tracking system. The presentation also discusses “One Call” pilot projects designed to prevent breaches of ICs, and the Guardian Trust pilot project which uses a private trust fund for long term stewardship of ICs at contaminated sites.
